Here is a short film adaptation of the apocalyptic science fiction story The Machine Stops (by E.M. Forster. Remember him? He wrote Howards End, which we discussed in our first class.)

For Discussion: How close are we to the machine dependence he depicts? I know some of you said robots would never take over the earth (in discussion below) but what if we let them like Forster envisions?

Our third and final FYF TGIF is scheduled for NEXT Tuesday, December 7 (4 – 6 pm) in Marts 214. As you know, this event is rescheduled due to a scheduling conflict of one of our presenters.

The topic for next Tuesday’s FYF TGIF is “Global, Ethnic, Cultural, and Sexual Diversity: Misconceptions, Misunderstandings, and Reactionary Responses.” Our facilitators are Dr. Linda Winkler, Dean, CAHSS, and Mr. James Harrington, Adjunct Faculty.

PLEASE REMIND YOUR STUDENTS THAT THIS IS THE LAST TGIF OF THE SEMESTER.

I need to confirm an estimated number of guests with the caterer. Please check with your FYF students in the next couple of days and ask how many plan to attend this final TGIF. Do include yourself in the guest list if you plan to attend. PLEASE NOTE: Students are welcome and encouraged to attend more than one TGIF.

Since many people have fewer than 10 posts, from now on each for discussion question will allow you to participate twice.

First, you should read and react to some of the comments on this post so far.

Then, you should answer the question yourself.

Revisit the post to see what other people may be saying about your comments!

For Discussion:

Then do a quick search and find a reincarnation story on the web which hasn't yet been posted here give a link to it and give your opinion - is it evidence for reincarnation or does something else seem likely?
