Presentations and Debates

As you all know, you have some major projects coming up. If anyone wants help getting their debate together, please let me know, and I will try to come to your group meetings when you are practing for it.

Also, since your presentations and paper look like a lot of work, I would be more than happy to sit down with anyone and work out outlines or go through ideas for the presentation. 10 pages is a lot of information and most of you are probably totally freaked out by this-- if you gather information I will help you sort through it and give you my best suggestions on how to organize it and such.

I still have a good chunk of money to use at Rifkin for you guys, I can't keep taking the same people.... so nows the perfect time to take me up on some free food and get off to a good start on your projects :)

Wednesday

instead of movie questions, I'll remind you to find those photos for friday - Six men, six women that you feel strongly about. The photos should be of similar size. If you do not have photos, I will supply you with standard ESP cards.

Here is the CS 115 Vampire Lab

Presentation Schedule

This will wake you up!

CS 115 Lab

In class today we will first look at/discuss the FYF posters.

Then I will talk briefly about network bandwidth.

Then you will do this lab. Most of the links are not hot because the second time you run the test, your computer's cache may affect the results - so I want you to cut and paste and *deliberately* run the tests.

The FYF Prophecies

I
Under the ground a tremble was made
as people kept admiring the sea
none understood why the water did fade
then seeing terror they began to flee

II
    the sky will cry
    waves of tears
    numerous people will die
the rest will run in fear

III
Sun, earth, sky enveloped in water
life destroyed by a new wave
prejudiced not against son or daughter
the world drowned us all, freedom enslaved

IV
One nice day in the sea
a hunter swam with the rays
not realizing how dangerous it could be
the mistake caused the end of his days

V
Once black, once platinum, now white
one who is a gloved demon
held a child in plain sight
    has the whole world scream

VI
They think two stubs hit the floor
as night fell footsteps were heard
the deeds perceived were all that and much more
the truth came out, the press went absurd

VII
    Words blur as he denies
    wagging finger firm
    but sullied blue addresses lies
    yet finishes out his term

VIII
The girls to die, the men to mourn
    It was a shock
to those who would not conform
yet their love held firm like a rock

IX
    The wolf wrapped in chastise
    condemning the martyr fully
    two mountains will rise
    to overrule his ruling

X
In the state of Virginia of the west
    an unlucky number gives proof
    a strange unknown winged pest
gave heed of water rising above an auto roof

XI
    Flowing black skins of leather
    masking two lost souls
    sunny outside, inside stormy weather
in their minds, fulfilling their roles

Can you identify any that you didn't write?

Me Again...

So.... you all did a fantastic job voting for me... and i won!

Now I get to harass you again to vote for me on national level.... (in which the prize is wayyyy better)

I know that some of the costumes are definitly better than mine, and are homemade and whatnot, but I hope you still stick by your fellow FYF buddy and vote for me anyways :)

FYF Poster

I found this old rubrick for judging FYF posters. The scoring will probably be similar this year:
We'll all look at your preliminary designs on MONDAY!

Wow!

The professor behind that Bigfoot video we saw in class is really taking some heat!

In next week's movie, Cryptomnesia (Cryptonesia) is briefly mentioned. The wikipedia entry is quite interesting, especially when you look at its talk page: "This article... seems like 100% made up crap" someone writes. LOL. But at the very end of the entry the court case in which George Harrison was sued for plagiarism is discussed. (You may recall in CS 115 I played clips from both songs during my intellectual property lecture.)

Favor

Hey guys,

Totally off topic of any FYF or CS issue... but if you all could take a couple seconds and go to the Wilkes Daily Jolt website, they asked me to submit a picture of my Halloween costume and theres a voting on the best. If you could do me a favor and vote for me I would love you all... Heres the link to the site: http://wilkes.dailyjolt.com/

I'm #14 (Batgirl) and you just have to enter you name, wilkes email and number you want to vote for.
I figured asking an entire class to vote would get me somewhere, so I really appreciate it!!

Thanks!
Nicole

Face on Mars then and now. But also proof that is is artificial!

An article about finding the mars landers. Software bugs causing real problems.

Please read Chapter Five in our SM text and this old psychology experiment about eyewitness observation for discussion friday.
