One of your classmates (Angelo Blade) is working on an article for the school's paper, The Beacon. He asked if I could pass these along to you, and so I am making them the FOR DISCUSSION questions this week. Please answer some or all of them as you wish, but remember what you say is being posted on the internet and may appear in print - so only give answers you are comfortable making public.
1. What is your name, major, housing(i.e. resident, commuting, etc.)?
2. What do you like about Wilkes University in general?
3. What do you think about Wilkes-Barre?
4. If a resident, what dorm hall are you in? What do you like about it?
5. What made you choose Wilkes University?
6. Where are you from?
7. What is Wilkes-Barre like compared to where you are from?
8. How are you adjusting to college life?
9. How do you spend your free time?
10. What is the biggest difference between Highschool and College? Academically? Socially?
11. What did you expect when coming to Wilkes? Does it meet those expectations?
There are so many questions here you may wish to only answer a few. That will probably still be helpful for him.

2. I like that its small and every student matters.
3. Well I'm from around here so I know its rep.
5. I transfered here from an out of state school, so I wanted to be able to be home, and it has good programs.
6. Scranton, PA
7. Well I live a little outside Scranton so its more suburbish. Wilkes-Barre and Scranton are a lot alike though.
8. This is my second year so I'm used to college and the classes, I'm just learning to adjust to Wilkes.
10. High school is more laid back and you have a whole year to learn things so you don't need to cram everything into one semester, theres not as much work to do. In high school I had more time to relax and be with friends.
11. I like that I can be at home and be with my friends from high school and my friends from here. I think its better because I can actually focus on doing my work.

2. In general, I like the atmosphere at Wilkes, the small campus, and the fact that all of the staff and professors are there to help you succeed anyway they can.

2. I really like how small Wilkes is. The class sizes are awesome and I like the fact that I see familiar people around campus.
3. Wilkes-Barre is a cool area, I like how it's city-like but kind of old fashioned at the same time. I also like how there are a lot of stores and places to eat nearby.
4. I live in Waller South. It's an all girls dorm on River Street. It's nice because there's not many people living there so you become really close with all the girls there.
5. I chose Wilkes mainly because I really like the campus and the size. I love how small it is.
6. Endicott, New York
7. It's pretty similar, it's a little busier here though.
8. I've adjusted pretty well. I play soccer so it's cool because I had already made friends with girls from the team by the time school was starting.
9. I spend most of my free time either at practices, games, or doing schoolwork.
10. The biggest difference is that college work is a lot more independent. You have to manage your time better. Also, I feel like it's more social, you're friends with more people at college.
11. I honestly had no clue what to expect, but so far I really like it here!

3. I think it's a so-so city that at very least is within a short drive from pretty much everything

6. Wilkes-Barre
8. I think I'm adjusting pretty well- love it so far- it's way better than high school could have ever been.
9. Free time? That's funny! On a serious note though, when I have a few hours free I tend to do a small bit of reading or notes or something and the rest of the time hanging around with people or getting done all that last minute stuff I'd been putting off until the last second

8. Pretty well. It can be a bit overwhelming at times.
9. My free time pretty much consists of studying.
10. Academically college is much harder and a lot more is expected of you. Socially people are much nicer. There aren't any clicks like there were in high school.
11. I expected to make some new friends and have good professors. So far it has met these expectations.

1. Jordyn Miller, mechanical engineering, Waller South
2. I like the size of the campus. It's just the right size (both class and campus wise) for me.
3. I think it's a place full of things to do, but it's a little scary at times.
4. I'm living in Waller South. It's an all girls mansion. I specifically like my room because we have our own bathroom, a small "lounge" room, and then our actual room. It was easy to make feel homey.
5. I chose Wilkes because they had my major and a high job expectancy rate after graduation with the degree. Also, the size and look of the campus persuaded me.
6. I am from Lehighton, PA
7. It's similar to where I'm from. It's probably more city-like though.
8. I feel like I'm adjusting well. I didn't think it would be this easy to get in the swing of things.
9. I rarely have free time. I'm ALWAYS doing homework.
10. The fact that the teachers aren't telling you to do your homework, etc. They give you your work and you have to put forth the effort yourself to actually get it done. There is much more homework. Socially, there aren't 15 year olds going to school with me anymore, so there is a general adult type vibe.

3. Wilkes-Barre is a pleasent city with some things going on, but a bit lacking in progress.

1. What is your name, major, housing(i.e. resident, commuting, etc.)?
- Cynthia Kiesling, Pharmacy, Resident
2. What do you like about Wilkes University in general?
- I like how we're treated as more than just a number.
3. What do you think about Wilkes-Barre?
- I think you shouldn't walk to Taco Bell, whether alone or with friends, in middle of the night.
4. If a resident, what dorm hall are you in? What do you like about it?
- Waller South and I like that there's only 20 something of us living there.
5. What made you choose Wilkes University?
- Wilkes has my major, the atmosphere of campus is great, it's only three hours away from where I live and my financial awards made it affordable.
6. Where are you from?
- Rockaway Beach, New York
7. What is Wilkes-Barre like compared to where you are from?
- It's very different. Even though I lived in the suburbs I had nothing to do besides go to the beach which happened to be across the street from my house. In the WB there's a bunch of things to do, like going to the movies and stuff.
8. How are you adjusting to college life?
- It was hard at first but it's going pretty good right now. The only thing I haven't gotten used to is the workload.
9. How do you spend your free time?
- Anything a normal college student would do... go out with friends, stay in and just hang out with the roommates, or do work.
10. What is the biggest difference between Highschool and College? Academically? Socially?
- In high school your teachers were on your ass about giving in work and in college they leave it up to you. Socially, I haven't seen a big difference. I've seen a bunch of petty high school drama. However, I've also seen people stumbling into their dorm rooms in middle of the night and I've been in morning classes with people who are hungover which never happened in my high school.
11. What did you expect when coming to Wilkes? Does it meet those expectations?
- Having never attended college before I didn't know what to expect but Wilkes is great so far.

Cynthia Kiesling, at Sat Sep 18, 12:46:00 PM 2010
. What is your name, major, housing(i.e. resident, commuting, etc.)?
Joshua Tausendfreundt, Computer Science major, resident student
4. If a resident, what dorm hall are you in? What do you like about it?
Staying in Catlin Hall. The house is spacious and the people are plenty friendly.
5. What made you choose Wilkes University?
It was the farthest from my family, and one of the cheapest.
6. Where are you from?
Philadelphia, PA
7. What is Wilkes-Barre like compared to where you are from?
Quiet, safer, calmer, not as much going on.
8. How are you adjusting to college life?
Pretty well, really enjoying everything and looking forward to the next couple of years.
9. How do you spend your free time?
Many, many clubs and activities, varying sports.
10. What is the biggest difference between Highschool and College? Academically? Socially?
Biggest difference is the freedom, academically college is way more challenging and engaging, and socially it's easier to meet and make a lot more friends.

1. Amanda Rossi, Pharmacy, Resident
2. I like the people and the classes
4. Evans. I like that I have my own bathroom
5. Proximity to home, the Pharmacy program, and being able to play tennis
6. Allentown, PA
7. It has more of a city feel then where I'm from because I don't live right in Allentown but rather a small town near it
8. At first it was hard but I feel I'm adjusting very well
9. Playing tennis, doing homework, and studying
10. In high school I didn't have to study very hard to get and A, but in college studying is a priority, and not only on the night before the test, but several weeks before. It's different socially because you're never away from your friends because you live with them.
11. I expected to meet new people and be challenged in school. Yes my expectations have been met.

1. What is your name, major, housing(i.e. resident, commuting, etc.)?
Jeff Frail, Integrated Media, Commuting
2. What do you like about Wilkes University in general?
It's close to home.
3. What do you think about Wilkes-Barre?
I've lived here all my life, nothing special.
5. What made you choose Wilkes University?
The location and the price, and it's one of the few colleges around here that have my major.
6. Where are you from?
Wilkes-Barre
8. How are you adjusting to college life?
I barely did anything in highschool, because thats just how mine was, it was rediculously easy. College is tons more work and it's a hard transistion.
9. How do you spend your free time?
I lift on certain days, and go up to Misercordia to visit a close friend whenever I can.
10. What is the biggest difference between Highschool and College? Academically? Socially?
Lots of work, hard to meet anyone because I'm a commuter. I come to class, and I leave.
11. What did you expect when coming to Wilkes? Does it meet those expectations?
I didnt really expect anything. It's good so far.

1. Olivia Andersen, pharmacy, Roth.
2. I enjoy the greenery and the mansions. It gives the university a more unique feel in my opinion.
3. I think it's a bit more exciting than my hometown, but it's not too far from my hometown either. I also love the local restaurants!
5. Well, basically, the pharmacy program and my parents standards. I wasn't allowed to go out of state, so I had 6 options in PA that had pharmacy programs. Erie and Pittsburgh were "too far away" in my parents eyes and Philadelphia was "too dangerous" so Wilkes it was.
6. Lehighton, PA
8. It's taking me a little while longer than I had expected. I'm not used to the substantial amount of homework, or the fact that I'm away from my best friends and boyfriend.
9. If ever have free time, I spend it napping, eating or going to the gym.. It's not that exciting.
By
OliviaAndersen, at Mon Sep 20, 09:17:00 AM 2010
1.) My name is Mark Attilio and I am a pre pharmacy student. I live in Evans.
2.) One of my favorite parts of Wilkes is the environment; it is such a serene campus.
3.) To me, Wilkes-Barre passes off as a very nice, tight knit community. I have yet to go to a single shop in the square or around campus where I do not feel welcome.
4.) Speaking of tight knit communities, Evan is nothing but one. The entire second floor is practically a family, and seems to have adopted me from the 3rd floor. We even try to schedule meals where we all eat together at the sub. It’s hard to imagine a better college environment to live in.
5.) In all honesty Wilkes was my back up plan. I hadn’t really been that excited to come here, however, on one of my first days I made plenty of friends and meet plenty of excellent doctors and professors. Latter that day, I walked along the river with on of my best friends, and found myself feeling at home. I couldn’t be happier that I came here.
6.) I am from Bethlehem, not to far from the historic section. Musicfest and The Hotel Bethlehem are good landmarks for my area.
7.) The only difference between Wilkes University and my house is that, at Wilkes, I am in walking distance of things.
8.) I have typically been self sufficient and quite used to teacher loading on the homework as if I had all the free time in the world. In am adjusting quite well if I haven’t adjusted already.
9.) I spend my free time with my buds. I try my best to keep up with all of my friends, for honestly, I wouldn’t be able to survive college without them.
10.) The one true difference between Wilkes and my high school academically, is the portion size of the test. I had tons of quizzes in high school. Here I have just 5 tests for every class. Socially, the primary difference is I still have to deal with my class mates after classes are over… I live with them.
11.) I really didn’t expect much. I don’t know what got me into such a pessimistic aspect when I came to Wilkes. I think it may have had to do with my heart being set on Temple. However, Wilkes is proving to be a home away from home, which exceeded all of my expectations.

1. What is your name, major, housing(i.e. resident, commuting, etc.)?

4. If a resident, what dorm hall are you in? What do you like about it?
Evans. The location is the best part.
6. Where are you from?
Allentown, Pennsylvania
7. What is Wilkes-Barre like compared to where you are from?
Roughly the same atmosphere
9. How do you spend your free time?
Being with friends and studying or doing other class related work.
11. What did you expect when coming to Wilkes? Does it meet those expectations?
I expected a warm, welcoming environment, which is exactly what I got when I came here.
